How to Migrate an Application to a NAT VPS

Updated · Autdo Cloud

Migrate to a NAT VPS by checking network compatibility first, testing a restored copy, then switching traffic with a rollback plan. Copying application files is not enough if the old deployment depended on dedicated public ports or an IP allowlist.

Inventory the existing service

List TCP and UDP listeners, external callbacks, DNS records, database dependencies, scheduled jobs, secrets and persistent files. Identify applications that embed public addresses or require fixed ports. Decide how users will reach HTTPS before moving the production origin.

Check OS and architecture compatibility. Confirm the destination plan has enough memory, storage and real stock. Do not assume a listed sold-out series is available for a scheduled migration.

Restore and test privately

Deploy a copy using test credentials and a consistent data export. Disable production scheduled jobs and notifications on the test copy to avoid duplicate actions. Verify local listeners, assigned NAT mappings, TLS and external integrations.

Measure application response times and memory under a representative workload. Check uploads, background workers and restart behavior, not just the home page.

Perform the cutover

Choose a maintenance strategy matching the database's consistency requirements. Take a final backup or synchronization step as needed, switch the public ingress or DNS and watch errors. DNS caches can keep some clients on the old destination, so account for a transition period.

Keep the old environment available for rollback until the new one is verified, while preventing two active writers from diverging. Remove obsolete credentials and resources only after you are confident in recovery.
