What Can You Run on a 1GB RAM VPS?
Updated · Autdo Cloud
A 1 GiB RAM VPS can suit a small static website, a lightweight API, an uptime checker or scheduled automation. Whether it is enough depends on the application's peak memory and workload, not just the language used to write it.
Good starting workloads
An Nginx static site with modest traffic is a common fit. So is a small Python or Node.js service with a limited worker count. A scheduled script that performs short outbound API requests can work without any public inbound application port.
Memory-heavy control panels, large Java services, multiple databases or a full build pipeline are less comfortable. Even an otherwise small application can exceed the plan during a package upgrade, dependency installation or a sudden request burst.
Plan a memory budget
Leave room for the OS, SSH and filesystem cache. Check free -h and inspect the largest processes with ps aux --sort=-rss | head. Monitor under realistic load rather than adding up advertised application minimums. Containers do not create extra RAM.
Swap may help absorb a brief spike, but it is slower than memory and cannot turn a persistently oversized application into a healthy service. Lower worker counts and bounded caches often help more.
Autdo's entry option
As checked on October 26, 2026, Budget B-S is listed with 1 shared vCPU, 1 GiB RAM and 30 GiB disk for USD 1.50/month. It uses NAT IPv4. Check live stock and pricing; do not assume direct public ports 80 or 443.
